Walsh Employees Committed to Building Community
January 8, 2010
Generosity is a core value at Walsh. The 2009 Walsh Employee Community Giving Campaign exemplified just that as employees contributed a very generous average of $452 per person, a significant increase, particularly during tough economic times, over last year’s average $364 per pledge.
Walsh expanded the direct giving options in each region to a variety of non-profits that coincide with the company’s mission to support organizations that offer assistance to youth. The organizations and the respective contributions they received (including WCC’s match) are as follows: Bridge Meadows - $6,646.60; Central City Concern -$4,001.39; Childhaven - $19,572.80; Downtown Emergency Service Center - $2,758.84; Doctors Without Borders - $3,802.66; Innovative Housing, Inc. - $1,285.90; LATCH - $6,750.14; Literacy Source - $5,143.60; Mercy Corps - $4,679.34; Northwest Housing Alternatives - $3,933.47; Oregon Food Bank – West - $85,463.86; Portland YouthBuilders - $18,215.24; REACH - $2,349.69; Second Step Housing - $5,614.54; Solid Ground - $1,920.50; The Dougy Center - $3,159.64; Transition Projects, Inc. - $1,412.82; United Way of King County - $3,809.20; Urban League - $3,006.33; Youth Progress Association - $8,228.09; YWCA - $7,170.98.
Final Results:
Employee Contributions $118,925.63
WCC Match $ 80,000.00
Total Raised $198,925.63
Participation: 86% (263 of 305 employees)
The Oregon Food Bank (OFB) West Fund was a special part of this year’s campaign. All contributions were made in honor of Bob Fisher, a former superintendent and friend who passed away in 2008. WCC and RDF employees pledged $85,436.86, and, thanks in large part to their generosity, a room at the newly renovated OFB will be named in Fisher’s honor. In total, WCC will donate an estimated $121,763.86 (taking into account last year’s campaign totals of $36,300) to the OFB West Fund.
